Brilliant poetry! Unforgettable images! |
I want to be a poet
and all day play with verse -
If it were a row, I'd hoe it,
and sprouting rhymes I'd nurse.
Seeds of thought I'll gently sow
in reader's fallow minds -
They'll eat the fruit they came to know,
then throw away the rinds!
My plow is like a windmill,
My team, a wit sardonic,
My little shack upon the hill...
please bring me gin and tonic.
I want to be a poet
and play all day this way.
Should I take a chance and go-it
despite what my wife may say?

I pace
the floors -
my wife,
she snores.
Each breath
she takes,
the house,
it shakes!
The cat
is gone,
our dog,
withdrawn,
our kids
(two boys)
can't stand
the noise.
Next door
they shout,
THEY WANT
US OUT!
The rain,
it pours,
my wife,
she snores,
the dream
I keep:
tonight,
to sleep.
